Our Philosophy
Achievement
Mr. Nolden specializes in traditional, classical music and teaches students to understand the finest music of Western civilization. To accomplish this, students will gain mastery of proper piano technique, music theory, music history, and performance. In addition, students will become competent in improvisation, transposition,
and learning by ear.
Fulfillment
"What piano instructors really teach is a way of living, a pursuit of life in which all sides of our being – sensory, physical, intellectual, and spiritual – are put to use. Performance is a remarkable synthesis:
it is certainly work, and the study of performing, is, in a sense, the growing awareness of the self and its abilities. Even if the student doesn’t make a living in music, the study of music has helped him know himself, and he will do whatever work he does better because of that study.” - Robert Weirich
Enjoyment
Student progress is based, most importantly, on the child’s enjoyment of playing the piano. We work hard to make progress in learning, yet any child who is joyfully engaged in the lesson, in practicing at home, and in the thrill of making music, is the true sign of success.
